We were craving for this season finale. The show delivered with skyrocketing multi-plots that had us literally freaking out! As was planned, INSANITY a la Williamson / Plec got served on a silver plate! Wow! What was that?? Oh my Freaking God! Rewind on this chaotic day in Mystic Falls.

The little town is getting ready for the Founder’s Day celebration. We open on Elena and Stefan who simultaneously get dressed in their 1864-like outfits in order to join the Miss Mystic Falls float.

Damon enjoys himself and sarcastically tells Stefan he is here to “eat cotton candy and steal his girl”. The device is supposed to be innocuous, so what can possibly go wrong? Stefan is really concerned about Elena and Damon’s burgeoning friendship, and rightly so!

We all know she is not Katherine but as she walks out in her era costume doesn’t help matters much. The two brothers stand gaping. The temptation is here before Damon’s eyes!

Uncharacteristically, Damon thanks Bonnie for deactivating the artifact. He even dares to openly flirt with Elena. No restraint, the handsome devil can’t deny his feelings anymore.

On her side, Anna offers Jeremy a chance to turn as she hands him a sample of her blood in small tube. Welcome to modern times! No need to drink at the source.

Something is brewing. The fang gang from the tomb prepped the attack on the founder’s families as a revenge for what happened 150 years ago. Anna, who infiltrated the group, tells Damon the plan is in motion. The fireworks start and everything accelerates.

The anti-vampire weapon emits high frequencies incapacitating vampires. Once spotted, the town’s deputies inject them with vervain and bring them to the basement of original founder’s building.

Damon is struck on-site as he came to discuss with John. He is taken care of by the mastermind himself, but thankfully Alaric saves Stefan. Not sure we had nails left at that stage!

At the Grill, Mayor Lockwood urges the kids leave but when Tyler is reactive to the frequencies, he crashes the car with Matt and Caroline on board. Man, this is insane!

A non-responsive Caroline lies on the ground, suffering from internal bleeding! The paramedics examine Ty’s eyes and what we see is scary! His eyes were not human. Seems the device isn’t just for vampires!

Mayor Lockwood’s is affected as well and taken to the basement where Damon asks him what he is. Anna falls victim to staking by the hands of John while Damon lies helplessly, unable to move due to the vervain! John finally sets the basement on fire to achieve what he thinks should have really happened in 1864. A vampire has time to crack Lockwood’s neck. Thirsting for blood, the death-meter keeps running in Mystic Falls.

This time it is Stefan and Elena’s duty to save Damon. They go through John to reach the building’s basement, and Bonnie arrives in time to cast a spell allowing Stefan in as she controls the intensity of the fire. Stefan eventually saves Damon.  Didn’t I tell you not to jump to conclusion that fast concerning Bonnie?

Damon is the one who tells Jeremy that Anna was killed. He acknowledges that turning Vicky was wrong. He offers to erase his memory once again, which Jeremy declines. He finally decides to swallow Anna’s blood before taking pills to kill himself.

Elena arrives as Damon exits the house. He tells her he doesn’t understand how he found himself willing to protect this town. “I’m not a hero Elena, I don’t do good… Not me,” he adds. He thanks her for judging him worth saving and kisses her passionately. Unbelievable! What? It can’t have been that easy and fast between them!

Jenna catches these two in a heated lip-lock and urges her niece to get inside, leaving Damon outside, in bewilderment as he touches his mouth. Hmm, wonder why? Did he sense something was…odd about that kiss?

Elena makes her way to the kitchen where she exchanges a few words with John, her father. And there, the craziest thing happens. She glances at his ring and chops his fingers off before she finishes him in a violent shove and stabbing. John understands that he’s being terminated by… Katherine! “Hello John, Goodbye John,” she casually comments.  No ring to save you this time ‘Jackass’!

The real Elena arrives on the porch telling Stefan over the phone that ‘someone’ took her stuff. Not someone dear, your twin ancestor Katherine!

In retrospect, what’s the status in Mystic Falls?  Well, tons of deaths occurred in seconds while the chaotic situation left us in a catatonic state. Many questions will remain unanswered till the second season starts.

Why is Katherine back? Does she have an agenda? I’m scared for Elena though I want to see them both in the same room. Is Jeremy going to be the first vampire in the Gilbert’s lineage of slayers or will he wake up with a migraine and indigestion?  How is Damon going to handle his love for both Katherine and Elena? Has he already figured out he kissed Katherine? And Stefan, how is he going to react at Katherine’s return? How long will it take before Damon’s dark side takes over again?

What’s next for Tyler? Is Caroline going to pull through?
