Bio and Photos of Alex O'Loughlin
Alex was born in Canberra, Australia. His Father is a physics and astronomy teacher in Sydney and his mother is a nurse. His parents divorced when he was only two years old and it was difficult on him growing up. He had problems with asthma and ADHD as well as obsessive compulsive disorder. He was hoping to be a jet fighter pilot but his teacher told him that with his asthma, it would probably not happen.
As a child he enjoyed heavy metal music. He enjoyed playing dress up with items he found in an old trunk. He has fond memories of putting on a white clown suit with big red polka dots. Clearly, he was getting ready for an acting career. He struggled in school and left at the age of 14 He enrolled at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) in Sydney, Australia in 1999. He worked hard and graduated after three years with a Bachelor of Dramatic Arts. Only a few number of students were accepted annually, so this was a great accomplishment for him.
His Career
Acting was interested in acting and began work in short films and fringe theater. After graduation, he began a career in Australian TV and film productions. His career really began when he appeared in "Man-thing", "Feed", and in the Australian mini-series, "The Incredible Journey of Mary Bryant." He received a nominating for best actor. He went on to join the cast of "The Shield" in 2007.
He left the shield when he landed the lead role in "Moonlight" for CBS. The show was affected by the writer's strike and eventually canceled. In 2008, he was cast in the TV show "Three Rivers." He was a doctor in a specialized trauma unit. Serenely truly enjoyed this show and was very disappointed when it was canceled. He was in the movie "The Backup Plan" with Jennifer Lopez, and I loved him in that too.
Fortunately, he was cast in 2010 in the remake of "Hawaii Five-O as Lt. Commander Steve McGarret, the son of the original Steve McGarret. And fortunately or us, this show stared it's second season .Hawaii Five-O won the People's Choice Award for 2010-2011 for favorite new TV show.
He has lived in West Hollywood, California, but when filming, his home is in Honolulu, Hawaii. He has a 20 year old son who splits his time with his dad in the US and his mom in Australia. Currently, he is dating Malia Jones.He was recently quoted as saying about Malia."I am a very lucky guy and very happy at the moment. She's amazing."
