J.R. received many notes of congratulations, but one was very special. It came from Secretary of Defense, Leon Panetta who wrote,

"Your strength and spirit captivated the nation, and your victory sends a strong message about the strength and resilience of our wounded warriors.”

J.R., in a recent interview had nothing but praise for Karina Smirnoff. He said, "I'm just so grateful that I was able to be part of the journey to help get her first mirror ball trophy. She deserves it. She should be in the elite category of people who've won on this show.”

As for his future, we will see him as the co-host of the pre-show of CNN's Heroes: All Star Tribute on Dec. 11th. He will also take part in CNN's Heroes, Where are they Now."
