Teams began the sixth leg of The Amazing Race by traveling on a 2,000 mile flight from Bavaria to Baku, Azerbaijan on the edge of the Caspian Sea. After reading the clue, Bopper and Mark were convinced that Azerbaijan is in Africa. Joey “Fitness” and Danny attempted to persuade an airport employee to take the flight with them. All teams were placed on an equal playing field as they were all on the same flight to begin this leg of the race. All seven teams arrived at Temple Ateshgah before it was open at sunrise.

Rachel and Dave were the first to open their clue and decided to select the Fast Forward. Joey “Fitness” and Danny chose to attempt the Fast Forward as well in the hopes that they could launch themselves into first place by beating the Combat Pilot and Army Wife duo. Only the first team to complete the Fast Forward could go directly to the Pit Stop. Any other teams that attempted the challenge had to start at the beginning. The two teams unloaded and stacked 150 bales of hay at a local hay market. Rachel and Dave beat the Long Island boys by just a few bales of hay, using what Dave called their “Midwestern work ethic”.

As Bopper and Mark headed to the Road Block, Bopper explained that Mark gets sick whenever he rides in the backseat of a car. He laughed hysterically as his teammate used a barf bag for the entire ride. During the Road Block one team member completed a helicopter ditch rescue training exercise. As Bopper and Jamie completed the task, Mark confessed to Nary that Bopper had a big crush on her teammate. All of the teams completed the Road Block on the first try. Vanessa struggled due to her fear of closed spaces and submersion in water, but she successfully completed the task.

For the next clue teams headed to Old Town Baku and searched for the Toghrul Karabakh Carpet Shop. In the Detour they chose between “apples” and “oil”. In “apple” teams had to search the interior and trunk of an old car for one apple marked with a race flag. In “oil” teams scraped and scrubbed oil from hairy men who received an oil bath spa treatment. Art and JJ had the pleasure of scraping oil from a particularly hairy and ticklish man from Azerbaijan.  During “apples” Vanessa admitted that she was going commando as onlookers cheered during the task.

Rachel and Dave were the first to arrive at the Pit Stop in Esplanade Estakada after successfully completing the Fast Forward. As winners of this leg of the race they won a pair of 2013 Ford Taurus SHRs. Art and JJ moved into 2^nd place and blamed it on the Fast Forward. The Kentucky boys Bopper and Mark managed to come in 3^rd. Rachel and Brendon arrived in 4^th after a particularly drama-free leg, in which, for the first time in the race, Rachel did not cry or whine. Joey “Fitness” and Danny arrived at the Pit Stop last and were eliminated from the race. Their biggest error was electing to complete the Fast Forward with Rachel and Dave in front of them, placing them at the back of the pack in the other tasks.
